Larry Jay Sims, 68, of Laramie, WY passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, at his home after being diagnosed with lung cancer four months earlier. He was born Aug. 25, 1941, in Evanston, WY, a son of Ronald and Gilda Sims. Larry graduated from Evanston High School in 1959, attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA for two years. He served a mission for the LDS church in New England and Nova Scotia. Larry received a PhD in Physics from the University of Wyoming in 1971. He worked for the University of Wyoming, Information Technology for 37 years. Larry was a friend to everyone and a life-long learner. He enjoyed researching family history, tending his yard and garden, photographing his adventures and family, hiking and skiing around the West, fishing with his college friend, camping with his family, cooking, crafting, and square dancing with his wife. Larry is survived by his loving wife, companion, best friend, and eternal mate, Lorene Sims. In addition to Lorene, he is survived by one son and three daughters, Dylan (Lon) Sims of Gresham, OR, Lachelle Sims of Laramie, WY, Lori Kayes of Corvallis, OR, and Lisa Jones of La Barge, WY. Larry had eleven grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Gilda Sims of Evanston, WY, two brothers and three sisters, Daniel Sims of Bountiful, UT, Ronda Corless of Sacramento, CA, Michael Sims of Evanston, WY, Judy Proctor of Tooele, UT, and Karen Faddis of North Salt Lake, UT. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Sims, and his sister, Lorna Smiley. There will be a memorial service at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December, 9, 2009 at the Laramie Stake Center at 3311 Hayford Ave with a public viewing at 10:00 am. Memorial contributions may be made to the Quadra Dangle Square Dance Club, The Meredith and Jeannie Ray Cancer Center, and Laramie Hospice Care in care of Lorene Sims, 2128 Reynolds St., Laramie, WY, 82072.
